People who love dogs, but live in tiny condos and apartments, need to give careful thought to the kind of puppy companion they get. They have to look for a breed that thrives in small spaces and won't bother neighboring tenants living on either side of them, or above and below. There may be no more suitable pet in the world for apartment dwellers that the Yorkies for sale in Colorado. In addition, when you buy one of these pups you'll have the honor of owning America's most popular toy breed.

With their bright eyes, silky coats, cute little topknots, and bigger than life personalities, these pups can be great additions to the families that are right for them. They do not belong in every family however. Yorkshires are not appropriate for families with little kids. Most breeders of Yorkshire terriers refuse to sell them to anyone who as a youngster less than six or seven in the household.

Families who are gone all day, and have to leave their pet alone for long periods of time, need to find some other breed. If grooming, or having your pet groomed regularly, is something you don't have the time or interest for, you should look somewhere else. Yorkshire terriers can be hard to house train and usually need to be crated. Families without the patience to get over this hurdle need to select a breed easier to train.

Yorkshires can be yappers, which can bring you in conflict with your neighbors, and drive you crazy, if you do not teach him early on when to raise the alarm and when to be quiet. Most Yorkshires see Rottweilers when they look in the mirror and won't think twice about confronting unfamiliar dogs. To avoid this, you have to take pains to socialize them at a very young age. Yorkies will sometimes pick at their food and have the kind of digestive issues that need the attention of a vet.

The dogs can be snappish if they get startled and may have separation anxiety if left alone too long. Yorkshires are very intuitive. They will pick up on your mood and react accordingly. If you are nervous and over protective of them, Yorkshires can become anxious and nervous themselves.

Yorkshires do not always lose their baby teeth. When this happens they should see a vet. This will lead to tooth decay eventually, when the adult teeth start to move down and get crooked.

On the up side, you won't be spending hours outdoors exercising the puppy. Yorkshires are active dogs, but they are usually satisfied with walking about the block if they have plenty of indoor activities and playtime. These are not cold weather dogs. Overexposure can make them sick.

Generally speaking these are healthy little dogs. Yorkshires are prone to some conditions just like all breeds. You should always get copies of the health certificates of the mother and father to check off genetic problems. All in all, Yorkshires are wonderful pets for dog lovers looking for affectionate, bright, elegant little dogs.
